City Roots started growing in February of 2007, when I first came downtown to Over-the-Rhine to look at potential locations for a new urban garden shop.

As a professional gardener I was well aware of the garden retailers’ stampede to the suburbs, if not in location at least in mentality. But with a rising interest in urban living it just seemed natural that people would want and need the products and services that could be offered by a city-centered garden shop.

City Roots is owned and operated by myself, Lisa Yunker. This adventure would not have been possible without the invaluable accounting and technical assistance of Kristen Yunker, and the web design wizardry of Dede Wilson.

The shop is located in the Gateway Quarter of Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati.
